Fabrizio Romano shed light on Liverpool’s decision in an interview with the Born And Red YouTube channel. Romano revealed,

“The package was considered too expensive by Liverpool”.

In the ever-evolving landscape of football transfers, clubs navigate a delicate balance between bolstering their squads and managing financial constraints. Such is the case with Liverpool’s recent pursuit of Khephren Thuram, the talented French midfielder. Reports swirled of a potential move to Anfield, but the deal was deemed expensive not ‘just in terms of the transfer fee, but also his salary’ by Romano.

Thuram, a young talent on the rise, has captured the attention of not only Liverpool but also Inter Milan. Standing at an imposing 6’4″, Thuram possesses strong physical attributes while exhibiting creative elegance on the ball. His exceptional passing range and ability to carry the ball through the midfield make him a tantalizing prospect.

Manu Kone Also Not a ‘Priority’ – Romano

Manu Kone, a compatriot of Khephren Thuram and a midfielder for Borussia Monchengladbach was also believed to be a target for Liverpool. However, Romano states that Kone is “no longer a priority” for the club’s midfield revamp.

The decision to withdraw interest stemmed from Liverpool’s evaluation that the deal’s terms, both in terms of transfer fee and wages, were excessive.

Inter Milan Interested in Khephren Thuram: A Family Connection

Inter Milan has set its sights on OGC Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram. The player has also attracted attention from Arsenal and PSG. While a summer move for Thuram to the Nerazzurri seems unlikely, the intriguing connections with his family could pave the way for a potential deal in the future.

Inter Milan’s interest in the Thuram family has already borne fruit this summer. Marcus Thuram, former striker for Borussia Monchengladbach and Guingamp, made the decision to join Inter on a free transfer. The involvement of his father, the legendary defender Lilian Thuram, played a significant role in the process.

Lilian Thuram, a World Cup winner from 1998, brought his extensive experience from his time at Parma, Juventus, and Barcelona to the discussions. The French icon engaged in talks with Inter’s directors, hinting at a potential future move for his other son, Khephren, who plies his trade as a midfielder for Nice.

A Glimpse into Liverpool’s Transfer Strategy

Liverpool has adopted a prudent approach to its transfer strategy. Favoring astute deals over rushed panic acquisitions. While the club faces the prospect of starting the season without a senior number 6 midfielder, the hope remains that FSG can secure meaningful deals before the transfer window shuts.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool faced a significant midfield overhaul following the departure of six senior midfielders. The club swiftly acquired Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, but the onset of the Premier League kick-off prompts a heightened urgency for further reinforcements.

As the transfer window unfolds, Liverpool’s strategic approach to midfield recruitment indicates commitment to building a well-rounded and competitive team. A summer move for Khephren Thuram may not materialize. Nevertheless, the club’s documented interest on Romeo Lavia indicates the more relevant signing.
