According to The Mirror, Ross Barkley of Chelsea has been offered to both Aston Villa and Everton. The midfielder was once hailed as a youth prodigy, but has not been able to cement a regular spot at Chelsea.
Barkley is not a stranger at Villa Park. He was on loan at Villa Park for the 2020–21 season. The 28-year-old went on to make 24 Premier League appearances for the Villains. He cost Villa £11 million in loan fees, according to reports. Under Dean Smith, he only managed three goals and one assist, and a transfer wasn’t made permanent.
It looks extremely unlikely that Barkley will have any role at Chelsea this season. There are far superior midfielders ahead of them in the pecking order. Ngolo Kante, Jorghinio, Matteo Kovacic and now Connor Gallagher are favoured by Thomas Tuchel. If Barkley desires regular game time, West London may not be the place for him.
Alternatives For Barkley
The Blues have made offers to Aston Villa and Everton, two of his former teams. Under Thomas Tuchel, Barkley only made six Premier League appearances the previous season. Additionally, he was on the verge of going on loan back to Everton in January., but a move never materialized
However, it does not seem likely that Villa will go for him either. Barkley didn’t exactly shine at Villa, and Steven Gerrard now has other attacking midfield options. Emiliano Buendia and Philippe Coutinho have been good buys, and won’t be moved on anytime soon.
His old club Everton may be an option in that case. He had some great moments with the Merseyside outfit in the past, Frank Lampard has previously managed him during his stint as the Chelsea manager. Perhaps he can bring a tune out of the struggling midfielder.
