Aston Villa have announced their loan signing of Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona. According to some reports, the deal also includes an option to make the deal permanent for £33 million in the summer. The Brazilian has obtained a work permit and is set to join the squad soon.

Coutinho moved to Barcelona from Liverpool for £142 million in 2018, but he has struggled at the Camp Nou. However, he has struggled to find a good run of games at the club. Therefore, he was also loaned to Bayern Munich where he relatively had a good season. Nevertheless, he failed to capitalize on the form that he found at Bayern Munich.

Coutinho was once again finding it hard to get into the lineup and deliver for Barcelona. Moreover, Barcelona are already facing a financial crisis that is not allowing them to register new players. They recently signed Ferran Torres but couldn’t register him. Therefore, they resorted to loaning out Coutinho to Aston Villa for the rest of the season.

Philippe Coutinho has been phenomenal for Liverpool during his tenure. He was one of the best playmakers in the league and capable of doing much more. He can replicate similar performances at Aston Villa and take them to another level. Moreover, he is reunited with his former teammate but now manager Steven Gerrard.

How can Aston Villa profit from Philippe Coutinho?

Coutinho is similar to former Aston Villa talisman Jack Grealish as he can cut in from the left flank and lure defenders away. Furthermore, his Premier League experience will help him in adjusting fast to the Premier League. It will also be fantastic to watch him team up with Steven Gerrard and achieve something greater than they could have imagined.

He was one of the best playmakers, dribblers, and a long-shot specialist during his time at Liverpool, and he can bring all of that to Aston Villa. He has the ability to help Villa compete for a place in Europe and turn them into dark horses for a top-four finish. Villa has made several good signings since selling Jack Grealish, but have struggled to find their talisman.

Villa have some decent attacking alternatives, but they lack the depth that is so important these days to play a full season. A club can compete in a variety of competitions in a full season. Some injuries might put a team in jeopardy, which is where depth plays a huge role.

Both Aston Villa and Philippe Coutinho must be very excited to start their journey. It will be interesting to see how Gerrard uses the Brazilian in his squad and whether Villa uses the option to buy Coutinho permanently. Everyone in the footballing world will be happy to experience some nostalgia as Coutinho curls one into the top corner.
