David Edwards has recently said in his column of Express and Star, that Ruben Neves is worth nothing less than £100 million. Neves has been instrumental to Wolves’ success this season and is playing with fine form. He is paired with Joao Moutinho who also does not show any signs of slowing down.
The Portuguese recently scored a winner from Brentford which was as usual a screamer for Neves. He was linked with a move away from Wolves in the summer for £40 million. However, David Edwards claims that Wolves should receive nothing less than £100 million for Ruben Neves.
Wolves are the second-best defensive side in the league having conceded only 16 goals in 21 matches in the league. Only City have conceded less than Wolves in 23 matches and that is 14. Neves’ technical qualities were previously visible for everyone but his physical side has also lightened during his time under Bruno Lage.
This is what David Edwards had to say about Ruben Neves,
“I believe Neves is arguably the best midfielder in the Premier League at the moment. The bigger clubs should be knocking Wolves’ door down. He would be a bargain at anything under £100million at the moment, he really would. He does everything you want from a holding midfielder.”
Why David Edwards rates Ruben Neves as a £100 million?
Ruben Neves is a player that even the best clubs in the world are rooting for. They either want Neves or a player like Neves. Many big clubs do not have players who can play the role of Ruben Neves for their club. The Portuguese is great in every aspect of the game and excels where he should be. There are now visible weaknesses of the player and rarely has a mistake in him.
David Edwards also claims that Moutinho and Neves are the best midfield combination Wolves have had in a long time. It will be a huge loss for Wolves to lose Neves cheaply especially to a rival. Therefore, Wolves should be compensated well for losing the services of Ruben Neves. Manchester United are highly linked to the player constantly and were close to making an agreement.
However, the deal did not go through and that worked in the favor of Wolves. United needs that one holding midfielder and Neves can be a direct fit for United. He is great at keeping possession and distributing the ball. Moreover, he works well to break opposition plays and win possession back. Nevertheless, every club would want a player who only scores screamers and nothing else.
Wolves would be aware of the attention that Ruben Neves is generating through his exceptional play. However, they will try to bind Neves as long as possible since this is the best chance for Wolves to experience Champions League football. Furthermore, Wolves would also need some time to replace Neves with the money they get. This may take up some time from Wolves and may change a few results.
