Markram is the winning captain of the inaugural edition of the SA20 league in South Africa. The first edition has gained much popularity in South Africa. Markram leads the Sunrises Eastern Cape to the championship. He played a vital role with both bat and ball. After his success in the SA20 league, he is appointed as the captain of the Sunrisers in the IPL.

“To be honest with you, someone like MS (Dhoni) would be great to have in your camp just for the guys to learn from him. He has all the knowledge and our local players in South Africa will benefit a lot from him. There are a lot of other players but he is the one that comes to mind,”
He further added,
“In terms of the responsibility, you do naturally enjoy it. You always want to win as sportsmen and when you happen to be the captain, that even exaggerates it more. All want the team to always do well and satisfy the fans. You want to give your all, if it works out, it works out, it doesn’t, it is part of the game,”
He scored 366 runs in 12 matches and also took 11 wickets. His game suits this format very much. He didn’t have a very good IPL in the 2022 season. But things may change as he will be leading the squad. SA20 league earned a profit of about 10 crores in the very first edition.

“I think MS is a great friend of South African cricket and we would welcome him with open arms if he decides to come. We ran into each other at the airports a couple of times. I think right now he is focused on doing well for [Chennai] Super Kings in the IPL”.
