Manchester United are still leading the race for the midfielder. They have even agreed a fee in place with Barcelona. However, Frenkie De Jong is not keen on a move to the cub. Hence, United manager Erik Ten Hag is trying to convince him to join the club. De Jong played his best football under Erik Ten Hag when they were together at Ajax.

However, it seems now Chelsea have entered the race for his signature. According to reports, Chelsea are willing to pay €70mn ($71.3mn) plus offering Marcos Alonso for the Dutch midfielder. The report also states that De Jong is more open to a move to Chelsea than Manchester United. Marcos Alonso is also desperate to join Barca. The Catalan club also Alonso as their prime target.

THE MIDFIELDER’S AGENTS ARE DEMANDING THE OWED WAGES

However, there is one problem with the departure of the midfielder from the Catalan club. Barcelona still owes the midfielder some back payments. The central midfielder is one of the highest earners at Camp Nou. Barca reportedly owes him additional payments from amortization and bonuses linked to his contract. They also owe him several deferred salary amounts which date back two years ago.

Frenkie De Jong is said to be owed a whopping €17million in different bonuses from the club. Due to this reason, his exit from the club is unlikely to be resolved. According to another report, the player himself is happy to let go of the owed payments. However, his agents are instructing him to pursue the payments. Many meetings are also scheduled by the club with his agents to resolve the situation.

De Jong also liked a post that slammed Barcelona for his bad treatment. Despite the huge payments owed the club continues to make high-profile signings, Manchester United legend Gary Neville has also instructed the midfielder to seek legal advice due to his treatment by Catalan giants.
