Three deals Manchester City should do on transfer deadline day

With the deadline day of the January transfer window well and truly underway. The Premier League champions Manchester City look set to end the day without any new reinforcements into their squad.

Manchester City did let go of Spanish winger Ferran Torres who joined Barcelona. City did sign Argentian striker Julián Álvarez from River Plate. But the striker is set to join the club in the summer and remains with the Argentinian outfit until the summer. Julian Alvarez has drawn massive comparisons to Manchester City’s legendary Argentinian striker Sergio Aguero.

Reports suggest that manager Pep Guardiola is quite happy with the players at his disposal for the rest of the season and is interested in integrating some academy graduates into the first team. The club looks set for the future and future transfer windows. But there are some contract situations that need sorting out within the first team and the coaching staff.

New contract for James McAtee

Reports earlier this month suggested that youngster James McAtee had stalled contract talks with the club. McAtee has just 18 months remaining on his current contract. Premier League clubs including Leicester City, Aston Villa, and Brighton & Hove Albion have all shown interest in signing the youngster.

The young forward is the top scorer in Premier League 2 with 14 goals in the competition so far. The forward has been compared to Manchester City legend David Silva. He looks set to have a big future ahead of him. But Cole Palmer’s inclusion into the first team set by Pep Guardiola has seen the young prospect stall contract talks with the club.

Manchester City and Pep Guardiola must do everything in their power to keep the young prospect at the club and sign a new long-term deal in Manchester.

Re-open contract talks with Raheem Sterling

At the start of the season, Raheem Sterling looked set to leave Manchester. Barcelona looked like a possible destination. But the Spanish giants signed Ferran Torres instead of the England international.

But Raheem Sterling’s situation at the club has changed too. The winger is back in form and back in favor. The winger recently picked up the Premier League player of the month award for December. But just like Gabriel Jesus and Riyad Mahrez, Sterling also has under 18 months remaining on his current contract.

ESPN have reported that Manchester City are set to re-open contract talks with the player’s agent in the coming days over a new long-term deal with the club.

Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola’s contract just like Sterling and McAtee runs only until 2023. The City faithful will be hoping that the manager extends his stay in Manchester for a couple more years. As things stand City and Pep Guardiola are on their way to another Premier League triumph.
