Tim Sherwood has suggested that Arsenal would like to finish above Liverpool in the Premier League. The statement comes after a brilliant start to the season for the Gunners.
He believes the new signings of the Gunners have made them stronger. The former Spurs manager believes they have got a winning mentality in the squad.
THE RISE OF ARSENAL IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE
Arsenal are currently at the top of the Premier League table. This is despite the insane goalscoring record of Manchester City striker Erling Haaland. At the moment, the Gunners are scoring goals and defending for their lives. The brilliant effort was quite visible against Tottenham. Hence, the club is now a strong contender for the Premier League trophy this season.
The brilliant form also means that all the players are buying into the tactics of Mikel Arteta. They can now start an attack from the back. The old problem of choking up in an important situation is starting to disappear. Many fans have also claimed the style of legendary manager Arsene Wenger is returning to the club. Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has also claimed that it will not be a surprise if the Gunners finish above Liverpool in this season. He said,
“I agree with you. That’s good. I think they are the second best team in the league. I think Man City are still above them, but they’re just stronger. Arsenal have got players and a manager who knows the formation.“He’s got Zinchenko and Jesus in there. Do you think they have gone there to finish fourth? They have gone there with that winning belief.
Hence, if a former Tottenham manager praises the Gunners, you have a big chance of doing it. The Gunners in the start of the season were not given a good chance of doing well. However, the goals of Gabriel Jesus and the defense of William Saliba have brought a new form of energy to the squad. Therefore, it looks like Mikel Arteta is making a statement of intent.
Arsenal play Liverpool in their next Premier League game. Liverpool are currently struggling to put their defense in order. Hence, this might be the best chance to play them. If Mikel Arteta wins the contest against Klopp, they will surely put in a fight for the title this season.
