Valentin Castellanos is reported to be close to signing for English side West Ham Utd in the January transfer window. The English side seems to be interested in the Argentinian forward.
As per Tutto Mercato Web, West Ham has submitted a bid for New York City striker Valentin Castellanos. This bid is a counteroffer after the first offer was snubbed by the American side.
The 23-year-old Argentinian started his youth career at Villa Nueve, later moving on to Universidad de Chile. He went on to make his senior debut with the Chilean club.
In 2018, he joined Major League Soccer side, New York FC on loan with an option to buy. Seeing his performance, the MLS side decided to trigger the buy option. The Argentinian scored 36 goals in 84 matches for New York City FC.
The Argentine’s performance enabled him to draw praise from Pep Guardiola last month. The Manchester City boss insisted:
“I think he is a guy whose next step will be in Europe
What I’ve seen, and when the scouting department talk to me, I think he is a quality player ready to make the next step. We will see where.”
That next step could be Europe with West Ham looking to land him on a bargain However, they need to stump up the cash.
Possibilty of signing Valentin Castellanos
The signing is possible given The Hammers put forward the right offer. Meanwhile, they initially offered £6.7m for the signature of the Argentine. However, the offer was rejected.
Now, they have recently returned with an improved offer of around £8.5million. So, it remains to be seen whether West Ham has plans to improve their last offer.
David Moyes wants quality cover for their talisman Michail Antonio, and Castellanos fits his choice. Meanwhile, The Argentinian could be a long-term solution to Antonio.
The South American player ended 2021 with 23 goals in 36 appearances for New York City. He helped them land the MLS Cup and he himself won the MLS Golden Boot.
Meanwhile, a couple of more cash could be enough to make New York City sell. So, the pursuit of West Ham for the Argentinian could be a real possibility.
