Wesley Fofana finally joins Chelsea in a blockbuster move

Wesley Fofana has joined Chelsea from Leicester City in a £70 million deal with £5 million in add-ons. Chelsea made three bids for Fofana, but all of them were turned down. However, Leicester’s resolve finally broke, and an agreement was reached.  The defender joins Kalidou Koulibaly, Raheem Sterling, and Marc Cucrella as the new recruits at Stamford Bridge.

Fofana was instrumental in getting the deal over the line. He took some measures that were frowned upon in Leicester circles. The Frenchman skipped training, which caused Brendan Rodgers to drop him from the squad. However, he had to train with the U23 team.

Fofana and his farewell message

Fofana thanked the fans and support staff in his goodbye message. He took the time out to express his gratitude to the medical staff who helped him through a leg break he suffered last season.

It’s time to say goodbye. During these two seasons here, I have probably experienced the most intense moments of my young football career. I have grown as a player but also as a man. Thank you to you, Foxes fan 🦊, for your kindness and your constant support, even in the moments you were led to believe I didn’t respect the club.

Thanks to the staff for their trust, their advice and of course, their support during my injury and my recovery period. There were ups and downs but I never cheated, you can be sure of that. Thank you to all the people who work here every day, you are the soul of this club! Finally, thanks to my teammates, my brothers, the Foxes soldiers. We’ll meet again, on a football field or somewhere else 💙

He even mentioned some uneasiness behind the scenes during the window. Regardless, Chelsea fans will hope that Fofana can put it behind him and help the club this season.
