West Ham: Steidten’s Picks Making Their Entrance

West Ham United

The shift in focus may stem from West Ham waning patience with the potential Maguire deal, which appears timely.

During an episode of The West Ham Way podcast, Ex elaborated on the club’s pivot towards recommendations from Steidten. He mentioned that various center-back options have been proposed by the German. Including his compatriot Jonathan Tah from his former club Bayer Leverkusen, as well as Odilon Kossounou and Edmond Tapsoba. Who also represent Leverkusen. Other potential candidates like Danilho Doekhi from Union Berlin and several players in Italy and France have been forward as well.

Ex goes on to reveal that Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea has attracted significant interest from West Ham.

West Ham and their negotiations

He goes on to state, “However, there’s a belief that negotiations might be underway, potentially nearing an agreement, with Greek international Konstantinos Mavropanos. We’re still awaiting official confirmation on this matter. Mavropanos currently represents German club VfB Stuttgart and previously had a stint at Arsenal. Featuring in 7 matches for the North London team. Standing at 6 feet 4 inches, he has been previously in links to the club.”

Although criticism may seem out of place given West Ham recent victory against Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final last month, it’s important to recall that this marked Rice’s final match with the club. It’s also noteworthy that a significant portion of the previous season was in dedication to avoiding relegation. Had West Ham lost the final, Moyes, who faced criticism about his playing style from within the team, might have found himself on the brink of departure.

However, with the triumph securing West Ham’s first trophy in 43 years, Moyes is likely to perceive an enhancement of his position. Having consistently secured European qualification for three successive seasons, the Scottish manager is seen as a reliable figure. From Moyes’s standpoint, the time is ripe for West Ham to align with his preferences. He has been selective about Steidten’s recommendations, favoring players with experience in the Premier League.
