According to the Scottish Daily Mail, West Ham has made a loan approach for Marseille’s Duje Caleta-Car.
Marseille had rejected the loan offer. And West Ham would have to make a permanent deal to sign the 25-year-old centre-back. According to the newspaper’s print version on Tuesday. Kaveh Solhekol of Sky Sports News claimed on Monday night that Les Olympiens want roughly Ā£16.8 million for Caleta-Car. Who has 20 Croatian caps.
What does the player add to West Ham?
David Moyes has less than a week to complete any outstanding business. But you get the impression that our chances of acquiring new players are dwindling by the day.
There were a few things that needed to be improved before the January transfer window opened.
Moyes needed to strengthen his defence, particularly at left-back and centre-back, but most importantly, he needed to buy a centre-forward.
That area has been a concern since the sale of Sebastien Haller to Ajax in January, and the Hammers haven’t been short of cash in their search for a new backup option for Michail Antonio.
We’ve heard a lot of stories that Moyes has money to spend this month, but it appears that he’s being too fussy, or that other clubs are simply pricing us out of the market.
It’s a pity, but we still have hope that Moyes will be able to sign players before the deadline.
Caleta-Car, on the other hand, does not thrill us, despite Croatian teammate Dejan Lovren’s prediction that he would “explode” in the Premier League in the future.
Marseille, naturally, refuses to consent to a loan and insists on a large sum for its Croatian defence.
You can’t blame them, but we don’t think Moyes can justify investing that much money on someone who may wind up fourth or fifth in the centre-back pecking order until Angelo Ogbonna returns from injury next season.
