West Ham United have announced the signing of their top summer target, Mohammad Kudus. According to BBC, a deal worth atleast £38 million was agreed with Ajax. The 23-year old midfielder had completed his medical before signing a five-year contract, with an option of one year more.
West Ham reportedly faced a ‘scary‘ suprise from an undisclosed club on Saturday, who also made a late bid for Kudus. However, the Ghanaian player had already made up his mind to join and play for West Ham.
Similarly, earlier, West Ham were competing with their league rivals Brighton for Kudus. At point of time, a deal between Brighton and Ajax was almost deemed to be completed. However, the deal collapsed, allowing The Hammers to become the favourites to sign Kudus.
Mohammed Kudus becomes West Ham’s fourth major signing of the summer. David Moyes and his club have really managed to strongly reinforce their squad with the ‘huge‘ amount of money that they recieved for Declan Rice. Before Kudus, West Ham also signed Dinos Mavropanos, Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse, who have made an instant impact at the club, especially Ward-Prowse.

In his first interview with West Ham, Kudus spoke about his excitement to play in the Premier League. He said: “I’ve been dreaming to play in a league like this since I was a kid. I’ve been dreaming of this moment and I’m so happy to be here. But it doesn’t stop here, I want to keep going.”
The West Ham boss David Moyes also spoke about Kudus’s signing, expressing his delight. In his first interaction after completing the signing, Moyes said: I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring Mohammed to West Ham United,” said the manager. “He’s a terrific young talent, who has already shone at the very highest level for Ajax in the Champions League and made well over 150 senior appearances at the age of 23 – so it was no surprise to see so many top clubs chasing his signature this summer.”
Kudus offers incredible attacking potential for his team. Being a versatile player, he can play as a no.10 and a right winger. His amazing raw talent helped him become one of Ajax’s most important players within a very short period of time. He managed to record 27 goals and 12 assists in just for Ajax.
Amongst his wonderful performances at Ajax, the most significant ones will be his displays in the European competitions. The world got to know about Kudus’ incredible talent after his solid performance in the 2022/23 Champions League, where he registered 4 goals and 2 assists. Even in Ajax’s first Europa League Qualifying match, Kudus scored a hat-trick and won the game for his team.
In an important season ahead for West Ham, Kudus comes as an amazing signing for David Moyes. With the Hammers playing in the Europa League this season, a player with Kudus’ experience and quality can really be the winning horse for the club.
