West Ham United couldn’t sign Duje Caleta-Car in January

On deadline day, West Ham United was unable to make any additions. Purportedly missing out on a deal to bring Duje Caleta-Car to East London.

According to a report in the French publication L’Equipe. West Ham and Caleta-Car engaged in ‘weeks of negotiations.’ Agents close to West Ham are said to have tried to force a trade through. But the Hammers did not make a decent enough offer.

West Ham United couldnt get the deal done ‘

Caleta-Car, who is characterised as a ‘colossus’ in this article. Was only offered a loan agreement with a buy option by them.

Marseille, on the other hand, was trying to sell Caleta-Car in order to obtain much-needed finances. West Ham will not make such a generous offer, and despite agents’ best efforts, Caleta-Car will remain in Marseille.

The Croatian defender is likely to be disappointed. Caleta-salary Car’s would have doubled if he had joined West Ham, according to Foot Mercato. They, on the other hand, would not budge, preferring to loan rather than buy. As they had done with Tomas Soucek, Said Benrahma, and Alex Kral.

Caleta-Car, 25, has made an impression in France since joining Red Bull Salzburg, scoring one goal in 12 games in Ligue 1.

Due to the failure to reach an agreement. West Ham will be without the extra defender that David Moyes desired, which is a major setback. They are pursuing the top four, so their failure to add defensive depth. Especially with Angelo Ogbonna out for the season – is surprising.

Maybe at the end of the season, they will return to seeking Caleta-Car. But if they miss out on Champions League football, it will be too late.

It’s a shame that they weren’t willing to pay that type of money for someone who has established himself as an international central defender.

Perhaps we’ll return in the summer for Caleta-Car. Unfortunately, this transfer deadline day already has a gloomy vibe about it.
