Arsenal Center-back William Saliba has reportedly no intention of extending his contract at the club. The defender continues to be a player in demand in the summer transfer market.

However, the North London club are very keen to extend his contract. Mikel Arteta is going to give him the opportunity to impress him and the coaching staff.

THE CURIOUS CASE OF WILLIAM SALIBA AT ARSENAL

The French defender made his move to Arsenal in 2019. He cost the club £27m. However, after arriving he was loaned back to Ligue 1. He has played for Saint-Etienne, Nice, and Marseille during his loan spells. The center-back played his best football at Marseille last summer. He helped the club finish 2nd in the league table. As a result, there has been talk of Mikel Arteta integrating him within his plans for the next season.

Despite this, William Saliba is not keen to extend his current contract. He has only two years left on his contract. The defender will assess his first team opportunities in the opening weeks of the Premier League. He will decide his future after evaluating his game time with the agent. Many top clubs in Europe are keen to secure the services of William Saliba.

HE IS NOT SHORT OF OPTIONS IN THE SUMMER TRANSFER MARKET

One thing is for sure, he is not going to be short of options if he wants to leave Arsenal. According to reports, Marseille are reportedly very keen to sign him on a permanent transfer. As a result, it is suggested that Marseille will wait until the final week of August before deciding on a move. The French club were very impressed with his performances last season.

However, there will be a lot of teams in the queue to sign the defender. All the eyes will be on Mikel Arteta as he will take the decision on the defender. If Arsenal decides to sell him, the club will at least try to recover their 27m investment on the defender. However, the owners and the management are confident that he can impress Mikel Arteta. They also believe that he will play an important role at the club.

Saliba was also handed his debut for the senior side for France in March. He has made five appearances for the senior side. The defender will be looking for game time to make it on the list for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
