Wolves getting closer to sign Matheus Nunes

Wolves are closing in on signing Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matheus Nunes. Speculations are rife about his move to the Premier League this season. A host of clubs are vying to sign the midfielder this season. Prime contenders for the midfielder’s signature are Liverpool, West Ham, and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Moreover, Lisbon wants £42million for the midfielder this season. No club is willing to meet the valuation of the player yet.

Wolves are in desperate need of reinforcements this season. Their 2-1 loss to Leeds United on the opening day only highlighted how badly Wolves need options in the midfield. Wolves missed out on their target Joao Palhinha to Fulham. However, it was reported by several media outlets that West Ham were trying to hijack the deals for the midfielder. However, their latest offer worth £25 million was rejected by Lisbon. Liverpool were also trying to sign the player this season. However, they pulled out of the race early last week.

No formal bid has been made as of yet by Wolves. Moreover, the player is also not interested in a move to Molineux. The lack of Champions League football is a major factor in this disinterest. However, Wolves remain keen on signing the player this season. Mainly because of the unclear future of Ruben Neves and the increasing age of Moutinho, who turns 35 this year.

Wolves face Fulham next

Wolves host Fulham at Molineux in their 2nd match of the season. Lage’s side started their account with a loss against Leeds. Now, Bruno Lage’s side will be looking to bounce back after the disappointment. On the other hand, Fulham held Liverpool to a 2-2 draw last season. Now, Fulham will be looking to keep up their fantastic display of football in motion and earn the first victory of the season.
