Arsenal legend David Seamen has said that William Saliba is a different player this season. However, he says the statement is made for all the right reasons.
The defender has made a brilliant start to his Gunners career. Hence, the Gunners are looking to give the French defender a new long-term contract.
THE RISE OF WILLIAM SALIBA IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE
Arsenal signed William Saliba from French club AS Saint-Étienne. However, the defender was loaned out for the rest of the season to them. Although, everyone was looking forward to having him the next season. However, Mikel Arteta decided to loan out the defender. He was loaned out OGC Nice. However, he could not impress much. Hence, he returned to Arsenal after his loan spell.
The Gunners again decided to loan out the season for the third season in a row. He was loaned out to Olympique Marseille. However, the story was different this time. The defender was brilliant in the loan spell. His performances also manage to get him his first call-up to the France national team. Therefore, many thought he would leave the Premier League club. However, the defender is now the first name on the team sheet for the manager Mikel Arteta.
ARSENAL HAVE PULLED OFF A MASTERSTROKE BY SIGNING THE FRENCH DEFENDER
The Gunners manager Mikel Arteta has pulled off a masterstroke by giving William Saliba a chance this season. Arsenal legend David Seaman has also said the same. He said,
“The two signings Arsenal made in Jesus and Zinchenko, and then in Saliba as well, and Vieira too. Saliba is like a new signing, he’s a player we didn’t have and he’s come back like a totally different player with a load of experience and he’s playing like he’s been in the Premier League for the past five years,”
However, the Gunners need to do one more thing. They need to extend the contract of William Saliba. The French defender has only two years left on his Arsenal contract. Hence, the Gunners need to start the discussions with the French defender. William Saliba has also said he is now enjoying playing at the club. Hence, this indicates the French defender is more than open to discussing a new contract,
Therefore, it looks like Arsenal legend David Seaman has made the right statements. However, Saliba will have to continue his brilliant form. The Gunners fans will be hoping that his form helps the club stay top of the Premier League till the end.
