Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has said that Kieran Tierney wants to play more games this season. Arteta has selected Tomiyasu as a starting left-back in absence of Zinchenko.

However, this means that Kieran Tierney only gets a chance as a substitute. Hence, this has led to his long-term future at the club being in a doubt.

THE COMPETITION FOR THE LEFT-BACK STARTING SPOT AT ARSENAL

Arsenal signed Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City this summer. Arteta thought that they have finally resolved the weakness of the left-back. However, before the start of a busy schedule, Zinchenko suffered an injury. The injury is likely to keep him out for a considerable amount of time. Hence, many thought, that Kieran Tierney will play all the games as his replacement.

However, the Arsenal manager has made a surprise selection in the last few matches. He has decided to play Takheiro Tomiyasu as a left-back instead of his ideal position of right-back. This is not the first time Arteta is playing players out of positions. He continues to play Ben White as a right-back in the Premier League matches. Hence, the futures of a number of defenders including Kieran Tierney have come into question.

KIERAN TIERNEY WANTS TO PLAY MORE GAMES THIS SEASON

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has claimed that Kieran Tierney wants to play more games this season. He wants to be involved from the start of the match. The left-back started against PSV Eindhoven. However, he needs to start more games to prove himself to Arteta. However, Arteta has also said that Kieran Tierney understands that team selection is working at the moment.

Arteta further said,

“He understood certain decisions. Like any other player, he wants to get involved and play as many minutes as possible,” he said. “We try to communicate with them individually when we can to give them some reasons and after they just need to work hard and accept and give us the right reasons. “Which are always on the pitch and not in training or knocking on someone’s door to make sure it’s that obvious to see that someone deserves to start the game.”

Hence, Kieran Tierney needs to push to start again for Arsenal. He has started all the games in the Europa League. However, he is yet to get a continuous start in the Premier League. Although, there is a chance he will play some games due to his busy schedule this month.
