This could happen due to his contract situation at Aston Villa. The midfielder’s contract at Aston Villa is expiring the next summer.

ARSENAL AND DOUGLAS LUIZ TRANSFER LINKS FULL STORY

According to reports, Arsenal were interested in signing Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa in the last summer transfer window. The contract of the midfielder was expiring the next summer. Hence, many expected Aston Villa to take the cash in on the midfielder. The reports also claim that the Gunners were ready to even pay a fee of a 35million for the midfielder on the deadline

However, Villa stood firm on their 50 million valuations for the midfielder. This is because Villa thinks that the Brazilian midfielder will sign a new contract with them. Hence, they refused to accept a lower price from Arsenal for their star player. In the end, the firm stance worked for Villa. Douglas Luiz is now more than important for them as their other main midfielder Boubacar Kamara has suffered a major injury. However, there is still a possibility of Luiz signing for the Gunners.

ASTON VILLA MIGHT BE FORCED TO SELL THEIR MAIN MIDFIELDER

Many reports claimed that there was still a chance for Douglas Luiz to sign a contract extension with Aston Villa. However, the rumors did not have much truth. The midfielder is still not close to signing a new contract extension. However, manager Steven Gerrard has said that the midfielder is not creating problems in the training. He has also mentioned that he trains with full power every day.

However, there is a possibility that Villa will be forced to sell the midfielder in January. This is according to O’Rouke. He said,

Douglas Luiz’s situation at Villa is uncertain and he is out of contract in the summer as well. Does Villa have to sell him in January if he’s not going to sign a new deal? Maybe Arsenal could land him for a cut-price fee.”

The situation of Douglas Luiz is also monitored by Newcastle, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Athletico Madrid. Hence, Arsenal will have to move fast for the Brazilian in the January transfer window. Many reports also claim that the midfielder prefers a move to the Gunners.
