Steven Gerrard finally broke his silence on the Douglas Luiz contract situation at Aston Villa. He said that the club is yet to receive any transfer offer from other clubs for the Brazilian. However, Luiz only has 11 months left on his current contract at the Midlands club. But he seems content with how the flow of play is going on.

According to the up to date reports, the Serie A champions AC Milan want to lure him away from the Premier League club. Previously, reports also linked another Italian club AS Roma and Arsenal to Luiz as keen parties to sign him.

Reporters asked Villa manager Steven Gerrard about the contract dilemma with Douglas Luiz. Others asked if he could be a long-term player for Villa in years to come. Gerrard replied:

“He’s playing well, he’s working hard. We totally respect Douglas’s situation, I love him as a player.”

“He’s been absolutely fine and professional. There are no issues from me. We’ll play that one by ear week to week. But, yeah, there’s nothing really to say because we haven’t had an offer and, at the moment, he’s got a year left. He’s been professional, he’s smiling and he’s enjoying it and we roll forward.”

Steven Gerrard replies on Douglas Luiz Speculations

Earlier this year many reports coming from Brazil mentioned that he hired Kia Joorabchian and Guiliano Bertolucci as his new agents. This agent pair also represents a couple of other Villa players in the form of Philippe Coutinho and Diego Carlos.

Douglas Luiz played all three pre-season games for Villa and looks like Gerrard wants him to make an integral part of the team. While asked about transfer activities of Villa, Steven Gerrard replied:

“We’ll see what the next weeks bring. But, yeah, in an ideal world we’ve got an eye on the market and, if something comes up that suits us, I’ll speak to people that concerns.”
