Aston Villa manager has revealed the contract situation of Arsenal transfer target Douglas Luiz. The midfielder was linked to a move in the summer.
However, Aston Villa refused to sell him in the summer. Although, the Gunners are exploring a deal for the January transfer window.
ARSENAL AND DOUGLAS LUIZ TRANSFER LINKS FULL STORY
Arsenal were interested in signing Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz on the deadline day of summer. They wanted to sign him because of the long-term injury to Mohamed Elneny. However, Aston Villa refused to sell their star midfielder. The report also claims that the Gunners offered 25 million for the midfielder. However, they were adamant about their 40 million valuations.
The Gunners refused to meet the valuation because his contract is expiring next summer. Hence, Arsenal have the chance to sign him for free next summer. The report also claims that they have agreed on personal terms with Douglas Luiz. Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has also issued an update on the contract situation of the in-demand Brazilian midfielder.
STEVEN GERRARD PROVIDES AN UPDATE ON THE CONTRACT SITUATION
Villa manager Gerrard has said that there is no new update on the contract situation of the midfielder. However, he says that the player continues to train with the squad without creating any problems. He said,
“No news in terms of extending his stay here, so that hasn’t changed. But what I would say is that he’s very focused, he’s trained well. “We want him to stay here, the owners were very strong in keeping him here. We didn’t obviously want to lose him on the final day and he has performed very well since.”
One thing is sure Arsenal will return in January. The reason is Mikel Arteta wants a new midfielder added to the squad. He was so desperate that the club dived into the free agent market. However, Arteta was not happy with any of the options. Therefore, it looks like the transfer saga this time will continue at the start of the January transfer window.
Douglas Luiz would also like the transfer to go through. The move will help him get European football at a good age. This move will also help his personal ambitions. Hence, it is less likely that Luiz will sign a new contract with Aston Villa.
