According to reports, Premier League outfit Aston Villa are interested in signing Inter Milan midfielder Arturo Vidal in the summer transfer window. Arturo Vidal is out of contract in the summer and a number of clubs are after his signature.
The Chilean midfielder has been an integral part of Inter Milan’s starting lineup this term. He has made a total of 32 appearances across all competitions this term. In this time he has recorded two goals and four assists. (stats via Transfermarkt)
Reports suggest that the 34-year-old is unlikely to extend his stay with the Serie A outfit beyond this term. According to Italian outfit Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspurs, Marseille, and Galatasaray are also keen on landing the box to box midfielder.
Arturo Vidal prefers a move to Flamengo over Aston Villa?
During a recent interview with Chilean media outlet TNT Sports, Vidal claimed that he would be interested in a summer switch to Brazilain outfit Flamengo. He said:
“The European chapter can be closed,”
“I don’t know if it is time, but if it happens, my goal is very clear. Win everything with Flamengo, fight for the Copa Libertadores, which is a dream because it is like the Champions League in Europe. “If I go, it’s to keep fighting and be an important player.”
“I have the dream of playing there, I cannot deny it. “And when it happens, I will go there. “Hopefully it will be soon, if the coach or the leaders want me, there will be a rapprochement and I will do everything possible to get there.”
Other midfield options for Aston Villa
Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard is keen to add reinforcement in the middle of the park in the summer transfer window. Gerrard currently possesses Douglas, Jacob Ramsey, Marvelous Nakamba, and John McGinn as midfield options.
Villa have already been linked with a number of midfielders including Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma and PSG midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum. Reports suggest that Brighton have set a price tag close to €50m for the Mali international. While Georginio Wijnaldum is also rumored to be on the lookout for a summer move.
Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips is also on the Aston Villa list. The England international is currently on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury. Wijnaldum seems to be the perfect fit for Aston Villa’s midfield with his bags of experience of Premier League football.
