Due to the positional freedom given to Jack Grealish the player could drift wide or drop deep to pick up the ball. As a way to change the system, the club bought Emiliano Buendía, Danny Ings and Leon Bailey this transfer window. The club could only take one shot on target which was in the 43rd minute from outside the box. While Everton played the 4-4-1-1 formation, Aston Villa tested the 5-3-2 formation. Due to this Salomon Rondon was isolated for most of the game. Due to the absence of Dominic Calvert-Lewin because of injury, Everton didn’t have their main striker. What changes did Aston Villa do to their system to win?

Well since the Chelsea game, Aston Villa has started utilizing a 3 centre back-formation due to the shift in the system. This helps to keep a player extra against teams playing with a front 2. Due to Martinez and Buendia being out of the team due to the covid protocols. The club needed to shift its focus to a more defensive style of play. The player who was the man of the match was Douglas Luiz.

During the game, the player provided an assist as well as 5 key passes. While playing the most defensive out of the three midfielders, the player’s average position was all around the pitch. He won 9 out of the 15 of his ground duels while having 3 successful tackles in the game.
