Steven Gerrard is on a quest to strengthen Aston Villa this summer. They are winnowing down the squad and injecting new blood into it to challenge for European qualification. Their main emphasis this summer is to strengthen the midfield. They have added Boubacar Kamara to their engine room this summer. They are further looking to strengthen their midfield by adding a player who will complement and pair up Boubacar Kamara in the midfield.

Gerrard has emphasized that Kamara hasn’t been signed just to play as a number 6. He will not necessarily play as a cover for the defense. Moreover, he is pretty versatile. Kamara is perfectly capable of playing a bit further up the field as well. Aston Villa could do well with a player of the caliber that Kamara possesses.

Currently, Villa’s starting payers for the midfield are a bit unknown. There is uncertainty regarding the players in the Villa midfield. Carney Chukwuemeka, Morgan Sanson, and Douglas Luiz are pretty uncertain about their future with Villa.

Douglas Luiz is on the radar of several clubs. Arsenal and AS Roma have expressed their interest in signing the former Manchester City man. However, AC Milan is the club most interested in signing the player. Here, we take a look at some players at San Siro who could be potentially used in a swap deal for the Brazilian.

Tommaso Pobega

The 22-year-old has been on a loan to Torino for the last season. He is a versatile and young player. He can play a defensive role as well as a more attacking box-to-box play as well. Pobega is a pretty physical player, something which is sure to pique Gerrard’s interest. Milan manager Stefano Pioli has waxed lyrical about the midfield man’s physicality and growth last season.

Pobega has a contract with Milan till 2025. He is their budding talent and it is unlikely that the side will let him go this summer. Moreover, Steven Gerrard is partial to experience this summer. He is looking to inculcate the experienced players this summer in the squad and push for the Champions League places with them. Nonetheless, Pobega would be an excellent deal if a swap does happen.

Ismael Bennacer

Ismael Bennacer is the base of the AC Milan midfield. He has had 105 appearances for Milan and is a consistent performer for them. Last season, Bennacer made 40 appearances for Milan across all competitions. He played in all six of Milan’s champions league games. Bennacer is a left-footed out-and-out number six. He is just 24 and is valued at £ 30 million. He has a brilliant passing game and is very intuitive in the base of the midfield. With 2 years remaining in his contract, a decision about his future has to be made soon. Moreover, a move to Aston Villa will be a new challenge for the Algerian international, something which he thrives on.

Aston Villa seems intent on making big changes happen this summer. They have made some high-profile signings to make this happen. All that is left is the football action to begin.
