Aston Villa have opened talks for Kelechi Iheanacho with Leicester City

Aston Villa

Aston Villa have held talks for Iheanacho move with the newly promoted Leicester City. Monchi has been in touch with the Nigerian’s camp over a potential move this summer.

The Villa Chief met with 27-year old’s representatives in Greece before Aston Villa’s clash with Olympiakos in the second leg of the UEFA Conference League semi final.

Iheanacho to part ways with Leicester after 7 years

Iheanacho made a decision to stay after he was linked to leave Leicester last season. The Nigerian wanted to help his side earn promotion. While the Foxes may have achieved that, the striker had little to do with the outcome.

Iheanacho was the 3rd choice striker for Leicester with Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka preferred over him. With limited gametime, the Nigerian was able to score merely 6 goals in 26 appearances for the Foxes this season. This is very disappointing for the striker after many had believed that Iheanacho would top the Championship’s scoring charts.

The Nigerian has reportedly refused to make an extension with his contract set to expire this summer. The 27-year old will be available for free on the market this summer.

Iheanacho to Villa: A Good Fit?

Aston Villa are interested to make Iheanacho an offer on a free transfer from Leicester. With Champions League qualification lurking right around the corner, Unai Emery’s side are looking to bolster their attacking options.

Ollie Watkins has proved to be a reliable goal scorer for the Villains this season. Iheanacho’s addition to the squad may provide much needed depth and competition upfront.

However, complications may arise for the 27-year old. The Nigerian isn’t officially available on the market yet. Other clubs may join the race for the striker. Also, Unai Emery demands high work ethic from his attacker. While Iheanacho is a talented finisher, many doubt that the Nigerian may fit Emery’s requirements.

However, if a deal materializes and Iheanacho does make the most of this opportunity, he may very well end up reviving his career.
