Aston Villa set to open contract talks with Atletico Madrid transfer target

According to reports, Premier League side Aston Villa are set to open contract talks with Polish right-back Matty Cash.

Cash joined the Premier League from Championship side Nottingham forest back in the summer of 2020. He has been a consistent part of the starting lineup and a key performer for the Villans ever since. Matty Cash recently switched his national allegiance to the Polish national team.

While Aston Villa this term were not enjoying the best of seasons defensively. But ever since Steven Gerrard’s arrival at the helm, the Polish right-back has been on top form. Matty Cash has made a total of 31 appearances in all competitions this term. The right-back recorded just one goal before Steven Gerrard’s arrival. Atletico Madrid keen on signing Matty Cash?

Reports coming out of Spain suggest that La Liga champions Atletico Madrid are keen on signing Matty Cash in the summer transfer window. Atletico Madrid recently sold right-back Kieran Trippier to Premier League side Newcastle United. Reports suggest that Diego Simeone is a big fan of the Polish right back and is keen to bolster his options at right-back next summer. Atletico Madrid are ready to pay up to £40 million for the Polish right-back next summer. Matty Cash’s current contract runs until the 2024-25 season.

But with Atletico Madrid’s interest in the right-back intensifying, Aston Villa are ready to offer the right-back a new contract. If the 24-year-old signs a new deal with the club, the Premier League side will certainly hold the aces during negotiations with Atletico Madrid. But Steven Gerrard will be hoping that the informed right-back signs a new deal at the club and stays with the club beyond the season

Steven Gerrard planning for a big summer transfer window with Aston Villa?

In a recent after-match interview, Steven Gerrard talked about summer backing from the club’s owner Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens. He said:

“The League does not lie and I’d say that Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd, West Ham, Wolves, at the moment, are ahead of us for a reason and there’s a gap and that is what we are striving to do,”

“But if we want to take one of them places, we’ve got to be positive, got to believe in it, can’t be indecisive, and we’ve got to go and grab it off them, we’ve got to believe what we’re doing, to keep learning and get support from up above and grab it.”
