Aston Villa entered the summer transfer window with an aggressive approach and looks like they will continue that. With several new and quality additions already, the club will also now pursue a new forward to bolster their squad.
According to a report furnished by 90min. who claimed that ‘Steven Gerrard’s side are circling and trying to prise Alfredo Morelos from the clutches of Glasgow Rangers.’ The report also mentioned a transfer raid on Gerrard’s former club may not sit well. Although, the Scottish club is open to selling Colombian goalscorer. This is because the club and the player could not agree to a new contract on mutual terms.
Morelos is now entering into the final 12 months of his contract at the Glasgow club and selling him now can be a clever option for them. Because next year he will be a free agent and the club won’t receive anything for letting him go elsewhere.
Aston Villa bid for Alfredo Morelos
According to the reports, a transfer fee of around £30 million might be enough to lure the goalscorer. Other than Gerrard-led side Aston Villa, Newcastle United and West Ham also registered interest in him among other PL clubs.
Since his move from the Finnish club HJK Helsinki, the ‘maverick’ Morelos has been quite brilliant. In each of his last 5 campaigns, he scored at least 11 goals or more in each of them. Just at the age of 26, the striker bagged 113 goals and 51 assists in overall 224 apps. His goalscoring tally is just 8 behind Rangers legend Kris Boyd.
Speaking about his playing style, one might say he is sometimes rash and quite physical but his goalscoring record easily makes up for that. A move to the club of his former boss can be beneficial for him and the Midlands club will have a great goalscoring prospect at their disposal.
