Aston Villa are on the lookout to sign duo Jan Bednarek and Abdou Diallo to reinforce their defense this summer. The Southampton and PSG duo are on Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard‘s radar for a long time. This interest was renewed recently due to the injury to Diego Carlos. Carlos joined Aston Villa from Sevilla on a £26 million deal. However, he ruptured his Achilles tendon in his second appearance in the Premier League. Hence, Villa are on the market to sign a new player before the transfer window closes on September 1

TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook has stated that Aston Villa looks like the most likely destination for Bednarek. West Ham had also expressed an interest in signing Bednarek this season. Bednarek has had 30 appearances for Southampton and even had four goals to his name last season. Moreover, the Villa camp prefers Bednarek more because he might need less time to adapt to England and can fit in the squad more easily.

Diallo could also join Aston Villa

Both are linked, and I think both are genuinely being looked at. Diallo is a better player in my eyes, but then there is the fact that Bednarek might need less adaptation time in England, so might fit in more quickly.”

Le Parisien has claimed that PSG has offered Aston Villa a chance to recruit the Senegalese international for a fee of €10m (£8.4m). Diallo had extremely limited game time last season at PSG. He made just 10 appearances for PSG last season. However, there is no denying his quality and ability. Talking to GiveMeSport, Alex Jones revealed that Diallo would be a relatively better acquisition for Villa as compared to Bednarek.
