According to Football Insider, Aston Villa are considering selling Ezri Konsa this summer. Steven Gerrard wants to move forward with the overhaul at the club. Villa has been heavily included in transfer talks after Steven Gerrard’s appointment as their manager. They have made quite a few quality signings but the manager also wants to transfer out a number of players.
Ezri Konsa could be a part of the overhaul at the end of this season. The Lions are now prepared to listen for offers for Konsa. The 24-year-old defender has had his share of good moments and bad moments at the club but his future looks uncertain. Villa might look to the market in order to replace the departing player.
Aston Villa have improved under Steven Gerrard and looks like they have a rebuild project in their heads. This is where the club has to support Gerrard with whatever support he needs. Aston Villa signed a few players who they might not have signed if it was not for Steven Gerrard.
However, the defensive pairing at Villa have conceded quite a few goals which has to be improved. The source updates that Gerrard is not a fan of Konsa’s consistency and reliability. The former Rangers boss might have some plans to improve the quality of defense. Villa are targeting Liverpool’s Joe Gomez to replace Konsa at the club.
Why Aston Villa wants to part ways with Ezri Konsa?
Ezri Konsa has made 21 Premier League appearances out of a possible 23. He missed the other two because of injury. This shows that he has been important for the Clarets this season and has also been picked by Gerrard in most matches.
However, that is due to a lack of quality and depth in the Aston Villa squad. The defensive backline have conceded a total of 37 goals in 25 Premier League games this season. Although Mings and Konsa had cemented their place in the backline for Villa, Gerrard wants more from his team. He might have seen this defensive record and decided to take action on this.
Villa’s choice for replacing Ezri Konsa is Joe Gomez for Liverpool. The Villans wanted to sign the defender in January but the move was stopped as Liverpool did not want to make a deal then. Aston Villa also needs funds to sign a quality defender who will help them climb the ranks.
Ezri Konsa might then have to start finding a new club if Villa’s intentions are clear to sell him. However, if Villa fails to replace Ezri Konsa then they will be in grave danger. Joe Gomez is a good option but that looks like a tough option as there is no certainty if Liverpool will sell him or not.
