BBC Sport Pundit Steven Thompson says Aston Villa have a ‘frightening‘ player in the squad for John McGinn. Aston Villa captain John McGinn continues to impress for club and country. The Villa star delivered a phenomenal performance recently, to help Scotland edge closer to Euro 2024 qualification.
McGinn helped his nation run out 3-0 winners over Cyprus in the Euro Qualifiers. Owing to McGinn’s goal and assist, Scotland beat Cyprus at their home. In addition to goal tally, Scott McTominay scored just six minutes after the kick-off. Furthermore, Porteous made the tally 2-0 at the tenth minute, after which McGinn scored at the 30-min mark.
BBC Pundit praises McGinn
Speaking to Sportsound, Thompson said he loved what he saw from McGinn.
“That is a brilliant goal, a really good team goal,” he said, as per the BBC Sport website.
“When it’s squared to John McGinn, there is only one thing on his mind.
“It’s not right in the corner, but the keeper wasn’t set because he hits it so quickly.
“What a return it is for Scotland, in terms of goals from midfield for McGinn. It’s frightening.”
McGinn also assisted McTominay’s goal, and recorded a brilliant 97.1 percent successful passes rate during the game.
It is great for Scotland and Villa that they have such a fine player like John McGinn in their ranks. He is a player of the highest quality and cam help his country to get into Euro 2024. It can be expected that they will qualify next week. But if not, most probably by the end of this year.
Besides this, Villa have had a decent start to their campaign, although Newcastle and Liverpool have recorded heavy wins over them. Emery’s men will surely find their feet and build on their six points so far this season, and that’s before mentioning the Europa Conference league adventure awaiting them. One English side playing in claret and blue have won it. Can Villa repeat that feat next year?
