A top BCCI official told PTI on Tuesday that Rahul Dravid applying was merely a formality. Rahul Dravid has sought the role of head coach of the Indian team. He has been regarded as the front-runner for the position. Paras Mhambrey, a former pacer, and Ajay Ratra, a former wicketkeeper, have also applied for the remaining positions.

Both Mhambrey and Ratra have worked at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru with the next generation of Indian cricketers. Mhambrey has also worked closely with Dravid at that level. He was a key figure in India’s successful A and U-19 team programmes.

Rahul has formally applied because Monday was the last day of the deadline. On the sidelines of the IPL final between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings. Dravid met BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah in Dubai. Ganguly and Shah are said to have discussed taking over the post after Ravi Shastri leaves. Shastri had announced that he won’t be the coach of India after the end of T20 World Cup in 2021.

BCCI believes Rahul Dravid is the best candidate for head coach of Indian Cricket Team

With Ravi Shastri stepping down, Dravid is anticipated to take command of India. The home series against New Zealand begins on November 17 following a T20I series. Kohli will almost certainly be replaced at the leadership by vice-captain Rohit Sharma then. Dravid’s appointment as coach will necessitate the BCCI appointing a new head of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

Dravid had gladly accepted the offer when BCCI discussed the needs of the Indian Cricket Team. His application for the position was just a formality.

Both Mhambrey and Ratra have worked at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru with the next generation of Indian cricketers. Mhambrey has also worked closely with Dravid at that level. He was a key figure in India’s successful A and U-19 team programmes.

Rahul Dravid has coached in world cups for U-19 cricket teams. As a result, he knows how to bring out the most in fresh talent. With him in the team, Team India will be a force to be reckoned with.
