Bissouma could join Aston Villa, transfer expert reveals

Graeme Bailey spoke at length on the Talking Transfers Podcast about potential midfielders who can join Aston Villa. Discussing so, the name of Yves Bissouma popped up as well.

Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa finished at the 14th spot in the Premier League table. Despite having big names in their squad like Ollie Watkins, Philippe Coutinho, Emi Martinez, and Danny Ings, they failed to end their season on a good note.

Desperate to improve in the upcoming season, Gerrard & Co. started working early jumping into the transfer market. Coutinho signed a permanent contract at the club after his initial contract as a loan spell is over. They also wrapped up a deal for Boubacar Kamara as well. The midfielder will join the club as a free agent. He already signed the contract for the Midlands club despite numerous clubs chasing him for his signature.

What Bailey revealed regarding Bissouma

Despite Kamara arriving, Bailey believes Brighton and Hove Albion’s Yves Bissouma will follow suit. While asked about this transfer, Bailey answered:

“So I’m told this interest has stepped up even since Sunday, they’ve begun conversations with Brighton and with his people, they’re making it known they want him and this could accelerate quite quickly this one.”

“We think a fee of around £30m; Tottenham are interested, we’ve heard Arsenal, West Ham and I’m sure there are probably others, too. Bissouma is a wonderful player, I saw him the other week at Leeds and he dominated that game.”

Aston Villa is also keen to sign Rangers defender Calvin Bassey from the Scottish League. The defender had a breakthrough season for the Ibrox Stadium outfit. This link is quite natural as Bassey previously played under Gerrard’s leadership. However, Bissouma’s signing can be in excess of the other deals pursued.

The midfielder has only a year left on his current contract at Brighton. Potentially, this can be the final chance for the Seagulls to coup some money from his sale. Given his quality, he still can fetch a good sum, despite a year left on his contract. The Mali international has been a part of Brighton since 2018. Gary Lineker previously called him ‘exceptional’.
