Brendan Rodgers is the man under a microscope at Leicester City. He is having an underwhelming season than what most people expected. The Foxes are currently 12th on the Premier League table where everyone expected them to be in the top six. They were also recently knocked out of the FA Cup by their local rivals Nottingham Forest.
Brendan Rodgers was quick to question his players’ hunger and prove them their worth after the FA Cup exit. The 4-1 loss was one of the lowest points in Rodgers’s tenure at Leicester City. Rodgers believes that Leicester has to reinvigorate the squad to stop the decline. The injury crisis has not helped the club at all either.
Leicester had two very good consecutive seasons where they finished fifth in both seasons. This will be a test of Brendan Rodgers as a manager and how he handles a situation like this. This is what Rodgers had to say on this situation,
“Now my job is to keep provoking and keep developing the club and the squad. If players aren’t improving and developing, then of course you need that healthy shake-up. We need to reinvigorate the squad.”
‘Nine of the 11 players who started at Forest were here when I joined. For the squad to evolve and become better you need to add better players. The club have been super-supportive since I’ve been here.
“I have always felt support from the club but I also understand football. If you’re not getting results you are always under pressure, I can’t deny that. We’ve had a great run here for a period of time but results like the one at the weekend will always put you under pressure as a manager. I don’t shy away from that.”
What Brendan Rodgers must do to bring Leicester City to life?
As Brendan Rodgers has mentioned, Leicester City needs to refresh their squad and welcome a few new signings. They are still very much dependent upon the excellence of Jamie Vardy who is currently injured and needs time to recover. The veteran striker cannot be at the club forever and needs a replacement as soon as possible.
Although Leicester’s season has not been that good, they still have troubled the big teams this season. They have got very good results against Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City and fought well against Tottenham Hotspur. They just have to make a few tweaks to their approach against other teams.
A good signing can lift up the squad and the results. However, the signing has to be very perfect to their squad and should adapt quickly. A good run of results can help the manager and the club massively, however, how to start that run is a big question. These are the times when managers and players are tested for the best of their abilities.
There is still belief that Rodgers might be the manager till summer. However, anymore shocks can cause some thinking in the Leicester boardroom. Brendan Rodgers and Leicester City will have to work very hard in the summer to fulfill their objectives. Moreover, he will also have to somehow convince his best players to stay at the club for some more time.
