Champions League this season has started with a bang. Manchester City and PSG won their first match. However, Chelsea lost their first match against Dinamo Zagreb.
This season’s tournament started early because of the World Cup in Qatar. Hence, the players are going to have a packed schedule this season.
THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE CAMPAIGN STARTS WITH A BANG
Champions League started with a bang as Manchester City and PSG registered wins in their first group matches. Kylian Mbappe scored twice as the French champions defeated Juventus 2-1. It also gives us the answer as to why PSG were desperate to keep Mbappe. Whereas Manchester City thrashed Sevilla 4-0 in their first group match. A brace from Erling Haaland and goals from Foden and Dias gave them the win.
However, Pep Guardiola has warned his players not to totally depend on Erling Haaland for goals. Whereas Mbappe praised the home atmosphere against Juventus. He said,
“We played well and we got a win in a tremendous atmosphere at home,”. “We always want to play against big teams, that’s why you play in the Champions League.”
ALL IS NOT WELL FOR CHELSEA AND THOMAS TUCHEL
Chelsea made a miserable start to their campaign. They were defeated 1-0 by Dinamo Zagreb. It has got more miserable as it is just announced that Chelsea has just sacked Thomas Tuchel as their head coach. Hence, it looks like Tuchel could not deliver under the pressure of huge investment by new owner Todd Boehly. Whereas AC Milan began their campaign with a 1-1 draw against RB Salzburg.
Whereas, it was an easy win in the end for Real Madrid against Celtic. They won the match 3-0. Whereas, Shakhtar Donetsk who had not played a competitive game since the invasion of Russia on Ukraine won thrashed Bundesliga side, RB Leipzig, for a scoreline of 4-1. This also resulted in the sacking of RB Leipzig manager Domenico Tedesco. Whereas, Borussia Dortmund won their match 3-0 against FC Copenhagen.
Hence, it looks like Champions League started with a bang with a few surprises. This is why it is the best club competition in the world. The upcoming fixtures of the tournament are certainly going to bring excitement among all the fans of the clubs.
