Chelsea And Their Prospects Next Season

Chelsea go into next season with a bittersweet frame of mind. Last season was quite a roller coaster for them. They were at the top of the table at one point, and seen as legitimate title contenders.

However, one bad thing led to another. They first lost both their first-choice wingbacks Reece James and Ben Chilwell. These two players are integral to how Thomas Tuchel wants his team to play, which was a big blow.

Record signing Romelu Lukaku’s controversial interview where he threw his team under the bus also hurt morale. It led to an uneasy relationship, ending with the Belgian returning to Inter Milan on loan.

A major setback was the sale of the club by longtime owner Roman Abrahamovic due to his association with Vladimir Putin.. He eventually sold Chelsea to Todd Boehly.

The Blues suffered a subpar end to the season but held onto third place by just a whisker. They have lost a number of players now, including Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

How Is The Next Season Shaping Up For The Blues

Now, Chelsea have a challenging rebuild ahead of them. The loss of so many defenders may prompt Tuchel to ditch the 3-4-3 formation he has employed. But the German tactician does feel the need to do so.

I don’t think it’s a problem of structure that we have because we delivered in this structure at a very high level with our performances. It is not the plan to change it but maybe we are forced to. It’s no problem to adapt and find solutions, but the problem is we are forced to be passive and it’s what we don’t like and we are not used to it. So I can answer the question more precisely when things move forward and we can start to act.

Chelsea are further looking for Raheem Sterling and Matthijs De Ligt. Sterling can provide some much-needed goal threat up front, while De Ligt can be a starter in their backline for years to come. Furthermore, a sensational move for Cristiano Ronaldo may also be in the works.

If Chelsea can get the above deals over the line, they will surely be dark horses for the biggest prizes in the world.
