Chelsea legend has criticized manager Graham Potter for playing Raheem Sterling and Marc Cucurella in a very different position. Both the players played out of positions against RB Salzburg.

Raheem Sterling played as a left-wingback in the game. Whereas, Marc Cucurella played as a left-sided center-back in the game.

Chelsea could only get a 1-1 draw against RB Salzburg. This game was the first game for Graham Potter as manager. Club owner Todd Boehly made him the manager after the sacking of Thomas Tuchel. Thomas Tuchel was sacked after poor results in the Premier League and Champions League. However, Graham Potter was confirmed as a manager two days before the RB Salzburg game.

Todd Boehly spent 300 million in the transfer window for Tuchel. However, there were many disagreements between the two. Hence, he was sacked. Therefore, Graham Potter arrived from Brighton. However, Todd Boehly hopes all the players of Chelsea flourish under the new manager. He will also be hoping that the young players finally get the chance to flourish at the club.

FORMER BLUES PLAYER CRITICIZES GRAHAM POTTER

Despite the game ending in a draw, the fans left the stadium with hopes of progress under the new manager. However, not everyone left the stadium happy. William Gallas was one of them. The former player of the club was not happy with the selection of the team. He was particularly not happy with the positions of Marc Cucurella and Raheem Sterling.

Hence, William Gallas made his disappointment clear. He said,

“I’m baffled by Graham Potter’s use of Raheem Sterling. That is a problem. When I saw Sterling playing as a left-wing-back, I didn’t understand it.”You are playing at home and you put Cucurella as a center-back, you have Fofana on the bench with Koulibaly, Chalobah on the bench, and you put Sterling as a left-wing back? I don’t understand.

The draw against Salzburg makes Chelsea an early exit contender from their Champions League. Hence, it was clear as to why club legend William Gallas was disappointed. Graham Potter will be hoping for better performance in the Premier League against Crystal Palace.
