Chelsea lost a friendly against Charlotte FC on penalties. This was the second pre-season game of the summer for the Blues.
Thomas Tuchel was hoping to build on the 2-1 victory over Club America in the first-friendly. However, the side lost the game despite leading the game in the first half.

Tuchel went with an unfamiliar team in this game. The manager had played a strong team against Club America. However, he made a few changes. Emerson Palmieri played on the left-hand side of back three. Callum-Hudson-Odoi featured at the right-wing back. Whereas, Mitchy Batshuayi got the nod down in the middle of the attack.
The kickoff for the game was delayed by one hour due to the storm. The team selected raised a lot of eyes of the Chelsea fans. However, Tuchel said friendlies give all the clubs to give the forgotten players a chance to impress. He also said he was happy with the first 80 minutes. However, the team lacked the cutting edge to finish the game and score more goals.

After the storm got silent the match started. Nevertheless, it was Chelsea who got the lead. The goal was scored by American international Christian Pulisic. He smartly finished from close range after Mitchy Batshuayi’s had his shot diverted. The Premier League side continued with their domination. However, due to a brilliant goalkeeping display by Kristjan Kahlina, Charlotte managed to reach the break trailing by only one goal.
Tuchel again made a number of changes. The most notable was the introduction of summer arrival Raheem Sterling. Charlotte played an attacking style of football in the second half. However Raheem Sterling and Mason Mount were close. Although, a mistake by Trevor Chalobah resulted in a penalty that was converted by Daniel Rios. This resulted in the game going to the penalties.
Connor Gallagher missed the Chelsea penalty. However, Charlotte scored all the penalties. This gave them a surprise win. It was a good win for them even if it was friendly. Whereas, Chelsea attackers need to work on their finishing.
