A gifted Chelsea player is itching to come up and take Romeo Lavia’s position in the lineup, according to Mauricio Pochettino. Lesley Ugochukwu might need to take over right away given that the Belgian is expected to miss some time. Before Sunday’s match against Bournemouth, Moises Caicedo needs to be examined.
After Lavia’s high-profile transfer from Southampton, the Blues decided to take their time with him rather than insert him right away into the starting lineup. Mauricio Pochettino claimed on Friday that the player had been working out throughout the international break. He was getting close to being fully healthy. However, a twisted ankle is now threatening to keep him out for a while. While awaiting the results of additional tests scheduled for next week, Chelsea fears Lavia will be sidelined for at least six weeks.
Mauricio Pochettino said
“It’s a sad situation because he was nearly fit to be involved again with the team. Now we need to wait and hope it is not a big issue for him, and the team of course, because he cannot help the team.”
Caicedo would not be a guaranteed starter for Chelsea against Bournemouth
Moises Caicedo made a lengthy journey to join up with Ecuador for international duty. So, Mauricio Pochettino could not promise that he would start against the Cherries.
Pochettino further added
“We need to assess him, because he got back a little bit later than Enzo [Fernandez].”
If Caicedo and Lavia were to miss out, there would be a void to be filled in Pochettino’s three-man midfield alongside Fernandez and Conor Gallagher.
Pochettino is fortunate to already have a new hire who has made quite an impression during training. This summer, Ugochukwu moved to Chelsea from Rennes in a transfer reportedly worth over £23 million.
