Coady Gakpo is reportedly a Manchester United target

Manchester United have reportedly been linked with a move for PSV winger Coady Gakpo. The electric Dutchman won the Dutch player of the season in 2021/22.

United can do with some attacking reinforcements up top. Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard all left this summer. The Red Devils did not add any attacker to cover for them.

Furthermore, Cristiano Ronaldo and now Marcus Rashford are linked with exits. Ronaldo has reiterated his desire to play for a club where he can compete in the Champions League. Meanwhile, recent news emerged that PSG are targetting England international Marcus Rashford

The club’s interest in Gakpo has reportedly “stepped up,” according to the source. However, Ten Hag’s team won’t be the only one with an interest. Leeds United are also monitoring his situation after Raphina’s departure to Barcelona.

The attacker is reportedly on United’s “list,” and even if Gakpo is content at PSV, he is “open” to the right opportunity.

Will Gakpo Choose United?

Ten Hag has favoured players who he has been familiar with. The signings of Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia, along with the insistence on Frenkie De Jong prove this. Coady Gakpo is another player who Ten Hag has observed during his time in the Eredivisie. He will be aware of his strengths and skillset.

However, the Champions League may be a factor in attracting Gakpo. PSV recently overcame Monaco in the Champions League qualifiers and will face Rangers to battle it out for a place in Europe’s elite club competition.

Manchester United will be taking part in the Europa League after finishing sixth last season. As a result, convincing Gakpo to come to Old Trafford may prove to be tricky.

In other news, Manchester United have settled on Adrien Rabiot as the deal for Frenkie De Jong looks unlikely.
