Diego Dalot Set To Stay At Manchester United

Erik Ten Hag is coming to United with a big job on his hands. Manchester United had a dismal campaign in the 2021/22 season, escaping Conference League football by only a slim margin. Their defence was quite suspect, conceding 57 goals. A full revamp is on the cards.

Among them, Aaron Wan-Bissaka faces an uncertain future at the Theatre of Dreams. His limitations in the final third are well documented, and may not suit Ten Hag’s attacking brand of football. Diego Dalot, however, may be spared from the rebuild.

The fullback has been inconsistent but has proven to be a decent backup for the Red Devils. With age on his side, along with his physical attributes too, Dalot has every chance of improving his game under the Dutch tactician.

Dalot’s agent too has said that he sees his client staying at United for this season.

He is very happy at Manchester United. The season went well for him personally, but obviously, it didn’t go well for Manchester United given the club’s expectations. But we are expecting Diogo to stay for next season, for sure.

Should United Let Dalot Go?

It is clear that Dalot has not lived up to the expectations that were set when Jose Mourinho signed him from Porto. He had injuries, and could not nail a place in the team. However, Dalot improved during his loan spell at AC Milan in 2020/21 though. Since then, he got plenty of game time under Ralf Ragnick, playing 24 times.

Ten Hag is looking at many options to upgrade his defence. One of them is Jurrien Timber, who can fill in at both centre back and right back. He would most likely be the first choice, should United be able to secure a deal for him. But as Dalot has previously proven, he can be a solid option from the bench. Ten Hag may perhaps want to take his time with this one.
