Everton bid £25.5 million for Benfica star Florentino Luis

Everton have offered £25.5 million for 24-year old Florentino Luis. The Portuguese had an impressive campaign with Benfica.

Luis plays as a defensive midfielder for Benfica. The 24-year old Portuguese has good sense of defense and contributes heavily to backing up a solid defensive structure. Moreover, he is quite composed on the ball and capable of producing a good pass.

Luis’ role as an anchor in Benfica midfield has helped in linking attack and defense swiftly. The Portuguese’s understanding of the game makes Benfica more dynamic up front. Luis has been an integral part of the first team squad under Roger Schmidt.

Additionally, Benfica ended the league placed 2nd on the points table with 80 points. They finished 10 points behind Ruben Amorim’s Sporting. Moreover, Benfica had the 2nd strongest defense in the league conceding only 28 goals the entire campaign just one more than Porto. The 24-year old midfielder was crucial in Benfica’s defensive solidarity.

Everton 23-24: Unending controversies and frustration

Everton ended the 23/24 league campaign on 15th place. Sean Dyche’s men were struggling at one point fighting the battle of relegation.

Moreover, The Toffees conceded 51 goals over the entire league season finishing with a goal difference of -11. Additionally, fans are frustrated with the management at Goodison Park.

The Toffees faced a 10 point deduction in November 2023 for breaching the Profit and Sustainability (PSR) rules over a three year period. Shockingly, Everton crossed the allowed threshold of £61 million by £19.5 million over the three-year period. The enforcement of PSR rules to such extent was questioned as the rules were not concrete enough.

However, Everton appealed the decision and witnessed the deduction of 6 points instead of 10 in February. But, a different committee gave Everton another deduction of 2 points. Earlier, five points were going to be cut-off. However, considering additional factors, the punishment of 2 points was finalized.

If not for the deduction, the Toffees would have finished the league campaign with 48 points. Additionally, Everton could have ended on 12th place. However, poor management and factors beyond Everton’s control just wouldn’t let it happen for them.

Moreover, 777 Partners’ takeover deal collapsing is another huge blow to the Toffees. Lack of financial capital is making things more than it is already difficult for Sean Dyche.

Florentino Luis to Everton: Benfica want more!

Everton submitted a £25.5 million bid for Florentino Luis. However, Benfica President Rui Costa values Luis more. He wants an additional £8.5 million for Luis.

Moreover, a journalist reported:

“Rui Costa intends to receive another €10 million.

Benfica are open to negotiating [for] the 24-year-old midfielder, but for a price he considers fair. Florentino has a contract until 2027 and a release clause of 120 million euros.”

Sean Dyche wants the 24-year old in his Everton squad. Negotiations between Everton and Benfica will be key for Luis’ future. As of now, the both teams will have to work towards finding a common ground.

Everton looking for a proper #6 to reinforce defense!

Sean Dyche has identified that the Toffees need reinforcement at the back. Particularly, at the defensive midfield position. Dyche wants a classical deep lying #6 midfielder.

Everton are considering Wilfried Ndidi and Ao Tanaka as alternative options to Florentino Luis for partnering up with Amadou Onana.

Moreover, Everton revelation Jarrad Branthwaite could be leaving Goodison Park for Manchester United. The deal will be bringing in some much needed capital for the Toffees. Although, Sean Dyche will have another major hole to fill at the back with Brantwaite’s departure.

Everton fans will be hoping for a smoother management. Additionally, the Toffees will be approaching the transfer window with immense caution to comply with the PSR rules.
