According to a report from Football Insider, Everton joined the race to sign Conor Gallagher from Chelsea. Reports previously linked Everton with the youngster this summer but there was no concrete evidence. However, now there is a new update that the Toffees will pursue the signing of the England international.

According to the report, ‘Frank Lampard is a huge admirer of the youngster and has made him a top priority transfer for Everton as he is looking for an energetic and dynamic midfielder to add to his team before the beginning of next season.’ The Toffees also contacted Chelsea to let them know of their interest in their player.

Does Everton need Gallagher?

Once a top 6 side, Everton are continuously falling down the ranks. Last season, they even found themselves in a relegation fight, thanks to a Richarlison goal, they escaped from that on the 2nd-last matchday. But now to put themselves in a better place, Frank Lampard needs to reinforce the squad overall. The young Englishman will definitely make an impact for the Toffees from the centre of the pitch and also with the departure of Fabian Delph and Donny Van de Beek, there’s more room for others.

Gallagher joined Palace last season on loan from the Stamford Bridge outfit. He was one of the star performers for Patrick Vieira’s side. However, given his quality, many believe Tuchel can still find a way to fit him into his system. Although, others believe that a move for Gallagher might happen if Tuchel can’t figure out a way.

But that would be late in the transfer window. As for Gallagher, he wants first-team football, wherever he will land eventually, at the end of the window. Liverpool legend Graeme Souness praised Gallagher by saying:

“He is a super talent. He plays with an honesty and freedom that every 21-year-old should and does not. He’s obviously a very talented boy. And he’s a joy to watch.”
