The Sun have reported that Everton are keen to sign Burnley winger Dwight McNeil in the January transfer window. Everton have had a really underwhelming season and they currently sit 15th in the Premier League table. Rafael Benítez’s side have picked up just 19 points from 18 league games so far. Benitez is keen on bringing in new faces to the club in the January transfer window to reach the objective for the season.

Reports coming out of Goodison Park suggest that Rafael Benítez is still not impressed by winger duo Andros Townsend and Alex Iwobi. The toffees manager is keen to bring in Dwight McNeil to add creativity in the attacking third and also support the striker in the final third.

The 22-year-old winger has been a very important figure for Burnely since his breakthrough into the first team back in 2018. McNeil has made a total of 126 appearances for the Clarets in all competitions. This term he has made 17 appearances in the Premier League. He has recorded just one assist this term but has still been a key component in Sean Dyche’s system. (stats via Transfermarkt)

But Burnley are set to ask for a fee of around £40 million for the winger in January. The 22-year-old is also drawing interest elsewhere in the Premier league from the likes of Crystal Palace and Aston Villa. But both the clubs have been put off by Burnley’s £40 million asking price.

Is Dwight McNeil the perfect option for the toffees?

Dwight McNeil is known for his crossing ability. For a side that possesses the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, he can be the perfect option for the team. McNeil also flourishes with the ball at his feet. He is also known for his work rate and tracking back and helping out his defence.

The 22-year-old winger has averaged 1.3 key passes, 2.1 dribbles, 1.1 crosses and 1.3 key passes per 90 in the Premier League this term. On top of that, he has also averaged 1.2 interceptions and 2.8 tackles per 90 in the Premier League. (stats via Whoscored). Those stats show that McNeil can add a new dimension to the Everton frontline. His impressive work rate can also be a real bonus for the team.

Reports also suggest that Sean Dyche may be tempted to let go of his star winger. In order to raise funds to bring in recruitment at Turf Moor. What remains to be seen is whether Everton can negotiate and lower the £40 million asking price.
