Everton secured their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup as they beat Boreham Wood 2-0 in the 5th round of the FA Cup.
Boreham Wood started the game on the front foot and pushed Everton back. But very quickly went back into their shell. Abdoulaye Doucoure played a through pass to captain Vitalii Mykolenko. But the left-back saw his shot saved by Taye Ashby-Hammond. Frank Lampard‘s side came close to breaking the deadlock in the first half but could not manage to capitalize on their chances.
Salomon Rondon did break the deadlock in the second half in the 57th minute from a low pass from Jonjoe Kenny. Ashby-Hammond did make a couple of saves to keep the scoreline at 1-0. Richarlison did score in a bizarre fashion but his goal was ruled out by VAR. Salomon Rondon doubled Everton’s lead in the 84th minute as he headed in from Andros Townsend‘s deflected cross.
Everton player ratings
Asmir Begovic 6/10
The goalkeeper had nothing to do really in the whole game. Not tested really by the Boreham Wood front line.
Jonjoe Kenny 7/10
He was very wasteful in possession in the first half. But he looked like a completely different player in the second half and he also grabbed an assist.
Michael Keane 6/10
Did really well defensively but lacked creativity with his forward passes.
Jarrad Branthwaite 5/10
The young defender struggled in the match and some of his passing was a bit off on the day.
Nathan Patterson 5/10
The January window signing finally made his debut for the club. He saw plenty of possession but had no real impact. Taken off last half time.
Vitalii Mykolenko 6/10
The left-back captained the side for the tie. Mykolenko put in a good shift but was eventually taken off due to a knock.
Allan 6/10
Allan kept things ticking in the middle of the park and tried to play some forward passes into the frontline.
Abdoulaye Doucoure 6/10
He did plenty of running in the middle of the park and was involved a lot in the Everton final third.
Andros Townsend 5/10
Really struggled to find his feet in the game. But did grab an assist for a deflected cross at the end.
Anthony Gordon 7/10
The youngster gave it his all. Showed plenty of running but lacked the final pass at times.
Salomon Rondon 9/10
Grabbed a brace in the game to hand Everton the 2-0 win.
