ASTON VILLA

James Milner Can Join Aston Villa This Summer

Liverpool veteran James Milner may have come to the end of his time at Anfield. The seasoned midfielder has played 587 times in the Premier League and has won it thrice. He also has a Champions League trophy to his name as well. He remains one of England’s most decorated players presently. Moving to Liverpool from Manchester City in 2015, he has served the club well. He has 289 caps for the Reds.

His contract ends in the summer, and so far no indication has been given of an extension. Perhaps the 36-year-old will look elsewhere to get minutes. One of those destinations could be Villa Park, as another Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard looks to bolster his squad. Ex-Liverpool player Jason McAteer advocated for the move during their bus parade on Sunday.

Massively important he stays at the club in some capacity. James is getting no younger although the numbers he’s churning out are phenomenal. I can’t see him going to a Chelsea or an Arsenal or a Manchester City. You know, maybe Aston Villa.

Good Move For Villa buying James Milner?

Milner may be 36, but his quality is as fresh as ever. A versatile midfielder, he can slot in at either fullback position or the wing as well. Jurgen Klopp has shown a lot of faith in him, often playing him over more youthful options in Alex Oxalade Chamberlin and Curtis Jones.

This is perhaps a testament to the quality of the England international. He is a wonderful utility player and a dressing room figure, but with the contract situations of Sadio Mane, Mohammed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Naby Kieta, Milner may perhaps be expendable.

Steven Gerrard is building a young team in Birmingham. However, a few experienced players among the young guns can be of great value. James Milner can certainly provide that, in addition to the very obvious football ability he possesses. On a free, little can go wrong with this move. Aston Villa must jump at this chance
