Journalist suggests Aston Villa to make a move for Luis Suarez in the summer

Aston Villa

Peter O’Rourke believes that Aston Villa could look benefit if they sign Luis Suarez from Atletico Madrid. Although the striker is not in his prime age, he can still be deadly on his day or even on a regular if he plays in favorable conditions. According to Gregg Evans, Steven Gerrard will be following Suarez’s situation closely in the summer.

Luis Suarez has already rejected a few proposals from clubs like Corinthians, Atletico Mineiro, and Palmeiras to focus on his return to the Premier League, according to Gerrard Romero. Aston Villa has made some serious signings in the January transfer window since Gerrard has arrived. Signing Phillippe Coutinho would never have been on the cards of Aston Villa until Gerrard arrived.

Not only Coutinho but also signing Lucas Digne by selling Matt Target was never thought of before. However, the former Liverpool man has made some bold calls and has been rewarded rightly in that case. The status Steven Gerrard holds is enough to attract a lot of players and the same could be said with Luis Suarez.

Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard have played together during their time at Liverpool. Both of them have equal respect for each other which is expressed on several occasions. Suarez does not seem to be a first-team player at Atletico Madrid. He was Atelti’s unused sub on several occasions including both the legs in the UCL round of 16 against Manchester United.

Why it makes perfect sense for Aston Villa to sign Luis Suarez?

Luis Suarez is one of the best strikers of his generation. He has an impeccable goal-scoring record along with a high number of assists. Many may still believe he can still perform at that level but at another club. Atletico Madrid’s playing style does not particularly suit the veteran striker. Perhaps he could thrive more in a positive and attacking approach.

Steven Gerrard has changed a lot of things at Aston Villa. The mood now looks better around the club and has improved the playing style also. Suarez’s magnificent time in England could help him get a head start at Villa. Luis Suarez has scored 31 goals in one season with Liverpool which is still the second-highest in the history of the league behind Mohamed Salah’s 32 goals.

Aston Villa is currently a mid-table team who are pushing to challenge for a top-half finish or even a top-six finish next season. They could use some help from an experienced striker like Luis Suarez to help reach those standards. He can even teach new things to the other strikers which can help the club in the long run. Villa will be even more competitive with Suarez on their side and can cause more upsets with a striker of such aura.

Luis Suarez has scored 435 goals and assisted 240 more in 690 appearances in his career at the club level. Some players dream for that kind of statistics and Suarez has achieved that. The Champions League winner has won many trophies throughout his career including many top scorer and player of the year awards and countless trophies with Barcelona. A man with that huge pedigree could only help a club improve and get to the next level.
