Juan Mata for another season? Will he stay?

According to some reports and interviews, there’s a possibility that Juan Mata could stay at Man Utd for another season. In Ragnick’s last match as an interim manager, the red devils witnessed a 0-1 loss against Crystal Palace. Mata came from the bench replacing Hannibal Mejbri in the second half.

Juan Mata’s contract is set to expire by June of this summer and has been widely considered to leave old Trafford. The 34-year-old’s gestures at the end of the game suggest his 8 years of stay has come to an end.In an interview with the athletic, Mata has expressed his desire to stay and is looking forward to talking to Ten Hag.

Ten Hag is the new glimpse of hope for this dwindling club with a great football heritage. Several players are set to leave Old Trafford due to contract expiration or due to a lack of in-game time.

Mata may not have got that game time but whenever he was on the pitch his game was something to watch. The last being the 3-0 win over Brentford. Fans wished the club played him more like a number 10. Mata has the technical ability to play under Ten Hag but he may not adopt to the changing times.

Ten Hag wants a coach who knows the dressing room well and can make them comfortable. Ex-Man Utd stars such as Van Persie and Jaap Stam have been linked with this role.

But it has been very long since they came near managing any dressing room. While this can be a possibility, the goodbye waving are suggesting something else. An embarks on a new chapter of his career and is probably far away from Old Trafford.

Signed by David Moyes in the winter of 2014 for 37.1 million. Mata went on to score 51 times, assisting 47 times across 284 appearances. In recent times, Mata has seen very low game time and thankfully the dreadful season has finally come to an end. It’ll be great to have the Spaniard at the club when he decides to hang his boots.
