Soon after the arrival of club legend, Cristiano Ronaldo. Manchester United offered Juventus a chance to sign Edinson Cavani. Juventus were in desperate need to sign someone to fill in Ronaldo’s place.
Instead of signing Cavani Juventus re-signed Moise Kean on loan from Everton. Earlier this summer, Cavani had offers from Argentina and he was strongly considering it. But Manchester United made sure that Cavani does not leave Old Trafford after a successful first season. According to CalcioMercato United offered Cavani to Barcelona and Atletico Madrid as well. The report suggests that Juventus never considered Cavani as an option because of his huge salary.
But Atletico Madrid were working on re-signing Barcelona striker Antoine Griezmann. Barcelona are already in a financial situation and were not willing to pay Cavani’s wages. Instead, they signed De Jong for Sevilla. Meanwhile, Cavani earns £250,000 a week at Manchester United and the Italian giants were not willing to say his wages.
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær now has a huge task ahead of him. He has to give proper game times to Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani. Since Cavani was wearing the number 7 at United he didn’t hesitate to give up the number to his teammate. Cavani took the number 21 as it was freed up by the departure of Daniel James to Leeds. Ronaldo thanked Cavani saying, ” I was not sure if it would be possible to have the number seven shirt again. So I would like to say a huge thank you to Edi for this incredible gesture.”
How will Ronaldo’s arrival from Juventus affect Cavani?
Ole Gunnar Solskjær has now got one of the best attacks in the world with the likes of Jadon Sancho, Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, and Anthony Martial.
When Cavani arrived last season there were a lot of questions raised. But at the end of the season, United realized have they’ve been missing a true striker. Moreover, Ronaldo isn’t the same player he was 12 years ago. He shifted from a creative winger to a proper goal scorer (a poacher). He plays a similar role now that Cavani plays. The key for Solskjaer will be getting the balance right. It’ll be very interesting to see how Solskjær manages to play all of his best players.
