Kevin Campbell says that Dutch defender will be happy to join Arsenal. Kevin points out on the links between Arsenal and Matthejis De Ligt. The £68m defender is currently under contract with German club Bayern Munich. De Ligt is reportedly a target for the Gunners. However, it will be important to see whether they will go for him in this window or in summer. Mikel Arteta is surely in a desperate need of another central defender. Although the possibility for a move is very less, Campbell be leaves that De Ligt will be happy to join Arsenal. Speaking on The Highbury Squad he said,
“He knows the Ajax style, you know, passing it from the back. Very good reputation, he just lost his way a little bit by going to Juventus, didn’t he? But very, very good player.
There are gems like that who you can nab, you could snap them up. You know, very good players who would love to come to the Arsenal, let me tell you.”
Even though Matthejis had some tough times at Juventus and Netherlands, he is still a solid player. His time at Ajax was marked by a dream run in the Champions League. Though there is no chance for a change, things may develop if Arteta wants an upgrade in Gabriel. Moreover, Bayern will also demand a huge sum of money for the defender. The bavarians signed him just 18 months ago from Italian club Juventus. Should Arsenal buy him, they will have to splash sum of money.
