Leeds United have announced the signing of ex-Everton goalkeeper Joel Robles on a one-year contract. Robles will provide competition to Leeds youngsters Islan Messier and Kristoffer Klaesson. Leeds were on the hunt for an experienced goalkeeper this summer. The signing of Robles will add depth to the goalkeeping department at Elland Road. Moreover, his wealth of experience will help the young goalkeepers too.

Robles made 65 appearances for Everton before joining Real Betis in 2018. Speaking to LUTV, Robles expressed his desire to work and gel well with his fellow Leeds goalkeepers.

“We have three keepers and we’re all together. To help the team, that’s the objective of everyone and like I say, I’ve come to help the team and complete the objectives. I think it’s a great moment to come here because I’m 32 with experience in my bag. The two keepers are 21. For me, I’m going to try and help them and I think it’ll help their performance. I think it’s the best start with three points at home.”

Moreover, he also stated that this club is perfect for his own growth as well. Robles said

“I think it’s a fantastic club for growth. We have very good fans and a very good squad, I think it’s good for me to keep growing. I think it’s a perfect stadium – the typical English football Stadium – I think it’s perfect to play football”

Robles has experience in English football as well. His heroics in 2018 against Manchester City during the FA cup quarter finals helped Wigan win the trophy that year. Leeds have had a busy summer window so far signing eight players including Robles to bolster their squad.
